The Tony Awards Administration Committee has announced that Michael Price, a member of our Board of Directors, will receive a 2025 Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theatre! This award is given annually to institutions, individuals, and/or organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in theatre, but are not eligible in any of the other Tony Award categories. They’re meant to recognize the amazing contributions of those working behind the scenes to create great theatre.
Michael Price is the longest serving Executive Director of an American theatre, having directed Goodspeed Musicals (home to our Writers Grove program) for 47 years from 1968 to 2015. In that role, he produced over 250 classic and forgotten musicals, 100 new musicals, and transferred 19 shows to Broadway, garnering 13 Tony Awards. He was recently inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame, and he is both the founder of the League of Historic American Theatres and a founding member of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre. Michael also currently serves on the Executive Committee of the American Theatre Wing.
Three others will also receive 2025 Tony Honors: Great Performances, New 42, and The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. These awards will be given at the 78th Annual Tony Awards ceremony, hosted by Cynthia Erivo at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 8th.
